A casual outdoor wedding at the distillery district in Toronto

The distillery district is a historic and picturesque area in the heart of downtown Toronto. It features dozens of Victorian-styled industrial buildings, as well as cobblestone walkways. The distillery district is a popular spot for weddings due to its unique photo backdrops. Given that it is a private property, a photo permit is required for wedding photography. However, if you are holding your wedding at one of the venues inside the district, a photo permit is normally included.

Distillery district wedding venues

There are several wedding venues inside the distillery district.  Some of the popular ones include Archeo, Cluny, Fermenting Cellar, and the Loft.  Their main differences are hosting capacity and vibe.  For example, the fermenting cellar is the largest indoor venue and it can seat over 300 guests, while the Cluny can accommodate up to 80 guests.  Archeo has both indoor and outdoor space, while others are completely inside.  Our wedding couple, Jana and Scott chose Archeo Trattoria, for their intimate and casual summer wedding.  This Italian restaurant is conveniently located by the Trinity Street entrance.  It has an enclosed outdoor patio as well as an indoor space that seats over 100 guests.

Distillery district wedding photos

Jana and Scott picked the perfect day for their casual wedding at the Toronto distillery district. It was a sunny and partially overcast day with a temperature level that is just right.  We started the photo session by the “spirit of york distillery company” building.  It is a 3-story high industrial building with wine barrels in front.  We then moved to the famous and usually busy love lock area for more photos.  It features a giant love sign decorated with many tiny locks, each with a written message.  There is a small booth selling locks or you can also bring your own.  Afterward, we did more photos that incorporate the landmark cobblestone pathway, green wooden door frames, and the outdoor clock tower.  We got many great wedding photos that Jana and Scott can frame and hang in their living room!

Archeo wedding ceremony and reception

Jana and Scott chose to host their outdoor ceremony and reception at the Archeo restaurant inside the distillery district.  The venue features a private patio surrounded by red brick walls.  At night, the Edison lights hanging from above lits up and give an intimate vibe.  All floral decorations on the tables as well as on the wall were provided by the venue.
